Our home restoration movement is the foundation to building stronger neighborhoods and empowering Ugandan families to live more fully into their God-given identity and purpose.

NEIGHBORS HELPING NEIGHBORS

Dwell is a community-based project inviting households to participate in the solution to the housing crisis they face together with their neighbors. Home owners personally invest in their own renovation project and contribute to the housing needs of their neighbors. And as we construct secure homes, we are also building a stronger community.

HOW IT WORKS

01

Neighbors come together to form a “neighborhood group” for the purpose of committing to help one another with their home renovation projects.

02

These neighborhood groups meet weekly to discuss the progress of the current project, to encourage each other in their contributions, and to build stronger relationships that will bless their community.

03

The members of the neighborhood group decide the order in which their homes are renovated. The members commit to work alongside the builders for each renovation project within their group.

04

When the members of the neighborhood group contribute labor and materials to another neighbor's home, they are given points that reflect the monetary value of their contribution through our incentive program.

COST BREAKDOWN

Renovation of an entire building with 4 households is $8,000 USD. This includes materials and labor for:

+ Removal of asbestos roof
+ Raising the height of the roof to allow for better ventilation

+ Installation of new iron sheet roof
+ New plaster on all exterior & interior surfaces
+ Secure windows and doors
+ Cement and brick reinforcement to the foundation and other vulnerable areas

THE INCENTIVE PROGRAM

To encourage community involvement, we have implemented an incentive program. When neighbors contribute labor and materials to another neighbor’s home, they are given points that reflect the monetary value of their contribution. At the end of each renovation project, the members trade in their points for rewards that will help make their home a healthier environment.
